Hagrid, a new 7-foot 6-inch tall animatronic for the new Universal Studios Roller Coaster.
It's the first human-like animatronic we've seen on a potter ride, and it's huge, just as it should be. Actor Robbie Coltrane did voiceovers for the new ride, with digital face scans done to study his expressions and movements for an accurate replication on the animatronic. "On this immersive coaster experience, you will join Hagrid on a thrilling journey into the Forbidden Forest. Along the way, he’ll introduce you to some of the Wizarding World’s rarest magical creatures. And for the first time ever in our parks, you’ll get the chance to come face-to-face with Hagrid."
The costume for the new figure was created by the same team that worked on his film wardrobe. The Hagrid animatronic also features 24 different body actions. To see the ride in action and hear a small portion of Hagrid speaking, check out our testing video here.
