Even though I voted for Tower for the reasons I listed. I am really glad to see that Montu has some followers out there. I think the coaster is under rated myself.

Montu is definitely under-rated these days, but I think a lot of that has to do with how aggresively Busch has trimmed the ride to tone it down over the past several years. The ride, while still phenominal, is unquestionably a shell of its former self.

Why do parks do that? is there any reason in particular that made Busch trim Montu?

In the case of Busch Gardens most of the trimming usually comes from funding issues. They seem to spend less to upkeep 1 attraction in order to build new ones. Hopefully this will be corrected under new management.

Thank you for the explanation. I never knew why they would do that.

This is part of the reason. Busch is also obsessed with making their rides appealing to the entire family - not a bad premise in the industry - but a very bad when when speaking in terms of a coaster that was intended to be this out of control beast when designed.

Trimming, though, absolutely lessens forces exerted on the train, track and structure that overtime would require extensive refurbishment otherwise. It does definitely save cash.

Hopefully, since the new management already has experience in the theme park industry the Busch parks will be able to build bigger and better coasters as well as put money back into the rides rather than trimming them.
Montu is a great coaster. I never knew they did that to Montu that's a shame

Yeah I know, I hated when they added trims. It's been so long since they added them. Didn't they get added in like 2000/01.

The pre-batwing trim was added in late 1997 and the block brake strength was increased in late 1998.

Make no mistake - Busch parks *do not* have new management. Blackstone is a funding partner. They put money into the parks as invenstments but they DO NOT run them or make business decisions. Busch will continue to run exactly the same way, for better or worse.

Actually, the block was later than that. I first rode Montu in 1998, and it was not stopping trains like that after I moved here in summer of 1999. It wasn't long after that, though.

The batwing trim was indeed on the entire time. I've had a few rides where it didn't catch the train at all and I can honestly say that thing is so forceful that it hurts your legs to the point that i actually prefer it trimmed. Not that midcourse one though. Blah.
